Lumberjacks & Flapjacks

Hey friends/bloggers {blends}

My cousin Stephanie (k she's not really my cousin but she might as well be} is putting on the GREATEST 5k this weekend!

Why is it the greatest you ask? Well let me give you a few good reasons:

1. you get to wear your lumberjack apparel bring out the flannel shirts!

2. you get to eat FLAPJACKS at the finish line!

3. It's exercise disguised as FUN!

4. you can run {or more likely "slow jog"} with the husband, myself, and our good chums!

5. {THE ABSOLUTE BEST REASON OF ALL} All the proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Stephanie is an amazing example to me. Her sister was born with Cystic Fibrosis 17 years ago. She is putting on this run to give back to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation who has helped and continues to help her sister stay healthy.
Lets all celebrate our health and run for this amazing cause!

For more information on the run {location, time, etc.} and to hear more of this great cause, check out the blog here

yesterday's news

what's white and black and read all over?

On my typical struggling walk home from school Monday afternoon, a guy snapped a photo of me. At first I thought he was some creep....after all, I was walking down what is nicknamed "rape hill". Turns out he works for the Daily Herald and was doing something on the weather. He asked my name, year in school, and what kind of coat I was wearing. I replied "Claire White, Junior, thrifted antique find." When I asked him if it would end up in the paper he said "maybe".

turns out it made the FRONT PAGE of tuesdays news!

I had family and friends text me during the day but it wasn't till that night I finally saw the pic online and not until today that I saw the hard copy

caption: Claire White, a senior at BYU, bundles up with a warm coat and boots as she leaves campus on Monday in Provo.

it looks somewhat "the satorialist" dontcha think?!
and yes my eyes are totally closed. oh...and i'm not a senior.

besides that I really love this photo. It's not necessarily flattering but I love it because it captured "every day claire" not "posed claire". This is what I look like 50% of the time these days.

Head to toe
hair: recycled from the day before
coat: oversized beauty found at antique store $20
blender bottle: the protein shake B makes me every morning for school
phone call: the daily chat with me mum
newspaper, sewing bag, art works, homemade art tote: projects projects projects
favorite jeans
boots (ALWAYS boots)

I'm not going to pretend that I didn't feel cool.
Cause I totally did :)
but now I'm just yesterday's news..

4 months and still twitter-pated

4 months married today!!

we celebrated by giving each other foot-rubs and eating nutella from the jar.

(okay lies. He gave me a footrub whilst I ate nutella from the jar. and now he's doin the dishes! yup, I've got myself a rockstar husband)

we kinda love each other, in case you didn't notice

vibrant

don't you love what gray skies do to colors?

i had two shoots yesterday.

the first one miraculously finished before a big storm rolled in.
the second unfortunately fell during it.

although i love a rainy day over a sunny one, rainy days are much better braved indoors.
with a good book
and a husband to snuggle.

hoping to stay on the dry side today

Dear Puma,

I'm sorry that when I come home to visit I avoid you. You try and nuzzle me and I push you away. You meow and yowl and I make you go outside. This must be confusing for you since we used to be really close. You used to sleep at the foot of my bed and you'd wake me up in the morning and you were always such a good listener. I just want you to know It's not you. But it's not me either. It's the husband. You make him get all itchy and then his eyes puff up and he becomes a sad sammy. But Cat, I sure love you and your leopard belly, even though you are the most self-centered living thing on this earth, and you lick your own bum, and you
are kinda rude sometimes. I just don't love you enough to make my man's eyes all scary.

I do hope you understand...

Date Night

My sweetheart and I had an impromptu date the other night. I was on the search for art supplies and inspiration. {What place to go than DI right?} We stayed until close, putting all sorts of treasures in our cart. Amongst other goodies, we walked away with these:

Thrift store dates were our favorite during our "courtship". Since we've been married it's been hard to find the time & resources to continue to "date" (which I believe is huge factor to keeping marriages romantic and fun). What fun, cheap, and easy dates do you and your sweetheart love most? We'd love to hear your ideas :)

Rebekah & Jacob {engagements}

Had such a fun shoot with this adorable couple last week!

Have you even seen a brighter smile than hers? I LOVE IT!

thanks

my high school photography teacher tore my work apart. (figuratively and literally, i kid you not). she broke me down. found flaws in everything I had put so much time and effort into. she shattered any idea I had of being an artist or artistic.

I quit.
I stopped trying to feed that creative need.
I just stopped making art.

I had listened to her.

I had long said goodbye to my photo taking days when my parents did something very brave.
{very inspired}

They gave me Hank.
{my camera}
as much as I hate to love material things, I do love my Hank very much.
But even more (like a bajillion times more) I love my parents.

I love my parents for believing in me, supporting me, having faith in me.

I considered Hank today while doing an engagement shoot. I'm not sure if I've ever properly thanked my parents for giving him to me. He's opened so many doors. He's been my outlet for thought, frustration, and creativity.

That teacher did a pretty swell job of ruining my perception of myself.
Thank goodness my parents encouraged me.

Sure I'm no pro and I have a long way to go before I ever consider myself one. But I've come this far already. And I wouldn't have moved a muscle if it weren't for my parents for pushing me along when I wanted to give up.

So mom and dad:
thanks

I love you to the moon
{ and around a few times } and back again

self portrait

I'm working on another self portrait.

I always have a hard time with these. I never capture the side of me that I want to. Or I just get overly critical of how I look. Remember my last one? I got so frustrated with my face I started chopping my head out of the photos. Funny thing is I feel it captures me perfectly!

I love everything/every version of this headless photo:
(no matter how many photo "no-nos" i did)

I love this one
(in case you haven't noticed, this is my default profile pic for just about EVERYTHING)

I love it all faded like

and i love the sun-burnt version

and the over saturated version

and the one where i look black (almost)

and the tan western-wanna-be version

and this one

this time around I'm being brave and including my head.
oh...and I'm painting it (eek!)
I will be sharing soon :)

30 minutes

it's amazing what 30 mins can do.

I used to complain "I don't have any time".
my wise mother would always respond "you have just as much time as everyone else. 24 hours every day. YOU decide how to spend that time."

Today/this week/this month I've felt I've had "no time".

life isn't slowing down. although I at times deeply wish it would, it wont. so sometimes YOU have to slow down.

I just spent 30 minutes laying on our giant rug in our little cupboard of a home listing to my dear sweet Brandon make music.

It's probably the best spent 30 minutes I've had all month.

10.11.2010

monday to sunday

our weekend came much sooner than we had expected (unusual) and lasted not nearly long enough (as weekends are wont to do). I woke up one day and it was Monday. I woke up the next day and it was Sunday. I'm not really sure how this has happened. The days in-between mysterisouly slipped by without my remembering them...all I have are the photos to prove that last weekend certainly did exist.

according to these photos. sometime last week:

fall snuck up on me

I chilled on a roof

found the coolest giant lego man at walmart

snapped an accidental pic of my favorite jeans & boots during a photo-shoot

If I wake up tomorrow and it's Tuesday (and not sunday) then perhaps there will be more photos, more commentary, and less confusion.
